Kyra is a 6 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy who presented to one of the Vets with a history of hair loss over her face, ears and around her armpits. The skin in these areas was inflamed but not overly itchy.

Skin scrapes were taken from 2 separate areas on Kyra’s face, which she tolerated very well with no need for any sedation. The material from the skin scrapes was examined under the microscope and revealed several Demodex mites.

Demodex is relatively common in young and older dogs, and dogs who are immunosuppressed ie…on long term steroid treatment.

Demodex is treated with an anti-parasitic treatment and Bella’s hair should grow back and her skin look better in no time
