Are you worried about laminitis?

We are seeing a few cases of laminitis at the moment and the condition can be hugely debilitating to horses and distressing to their owners. Most cases are down to an underlying hormonal disorder, either Cushing’s Disease (Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction - PPID) or Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).

By identifying these conditions we can greatly reduce a horse or pony's risk of having a laminitic episode.

Talk About Laminitis (TAL) is a disease awareness initiative supported by the British Horse Society, Redwings and World Horse Welfare which highlights the link between PPID, EMS and laminitis. As part of the TAL season, complimentary laboratory fees for the blood test to detect PPID are being offered to horses that have never had a positive blood test result (visits, sampling and postage are payable).

Please click on the link below for further details about the disease and call us if you have any concerns about your pony or would like to book an appointment.
